De Wildt Cheetah Farm
The De Wildt Cheetah Sanctuary, started in 1971 on her parent’s chicken farm by Ann van Dyk, has assumed a crucial role in the survival of many endangered South African species. Besides Cheetah, the centre also contributes to the conservation of African Wild Dogs and Cape Vultures.
De Wildt Cheetah Farm is located in North West Province, South Africa and has been home to cheetahs since 1971. It is a sanctuary for injured, abandoned and orphaned cheetahs that are rescued from wildlife areas across the country. De Wildt has become an important part of conservation efforts with its focus on breeding and research as well as providing a safe haven for these majestic animals.
The farm was established to protect these animals from extinction. The concept was simple; create an area where cheetahs could live without fear of humans hunting them or destroying their habitat. Thanks largely due to veterinary care during pregnancy & birth provided by experienced staff members along with specialised mothering training given once newborns arrive into the world – all designed specifically tailored towards helping mums-to-be handle labour smoothly while keeping babies safe & sound until they reach six months old when they move onto other enclosures within farm grounds.
